The St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Centre is one of the most well-liked locations to observe ships as they travel along the Welland Canal, a well-known engineering marvel. The Welland Canal is a shipping channel that joins Lake Ontario and Lake Erie in Ontario, Canada.
From Port Colborne on Lake Erie to Port Weller on Lake Ontario, the canal travels a distance of 27 miles before emptying into the Niagara River. Daily hours of operation for the St. Catharines Museum and Welland Canals Center are 9 am to 5 pm.
Visitors can observe these giant beasts from the observation deck or the Lock View Lounge on the second floor of the museum, which provides a fantastic view of the canal and the ships as they pass through it. The Lock View Lounge gives a more laid-back setting to observe the animals, while the observation deck allows a closer look as they swim by.
The outdoor Discovery Park is the ideal location to learn about the history of the area or simply to relax with a picnic in the peaceful surroundings. While you’re there, make sure to visit the Museum’s exhibition rooms to witness how local history is brought to life. Everyone may enjoy a range of activities at the park, including hiking, picnics, bird watching, and astronomy.
The museum is open to the public without charge, however a $5 gift is encouraged. Learn more about our group tours and educational programming rates if you want to bring a bigger group. This will enable us to keep giving visitors to the museum a pleasant experience.
Admission charges support the museum by paying for public programs, the preservation of historic artifacts, as well as archives and other records that preserve our own regional heritage. This enables us to continue offering the community’s residents educational opportunities and information about our past.
